South Carolina, Medicare and Medicare Supplements

Nicknamed "The Palmetto State", South Carolina is home to 4,679,230 people and some if not many are dealing with Medicare and getting educated about the different kinds of insurance that assist with the portions that Medicare leaves behind for the beneficiary to pay. There are 46 counties in South Carolina and from Lexington to Lee and from Beaufort to Cherokee Counties, just to name a few, residents on or approaching Medicare eligibility get more and more confused as the system changes and as new plans enter the market.

Medicare is comprised of 4 separate parts

  • Part A Hospital Coverage - After your Part A deductible is met Part A will cover you for 80%. (Most insurances will pay the deductible and the 20% left behind)
  • Part B Medical and/or Doctor Coverage - After the Part B deductible is met($140 in 2012) Medicare will cover 80% of Medicare approved doctor charges. (Some but not all insurances will pay the deductible and the 20%)
  • Part C Medicare Advantage Plans. Please understand, that if you have or if you elect to be in a Medicare Advantage Plan then you will be surrendering your Part A and Part B and now the a insurance company is responsible for 100% of your doctor and hospital bills. What you are responsible for are the co payments or co insurances within that particular plan. Be careful some plans can have you pay as much as $10,000 in co pays/co insurances a year.
  • Part D Rx Coverage. If you have a Medicare Supplement then you will need a Rx plan. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan then more than likely your Rx coverage is included. Always check with your provider to make sure your Medicare Advantage Plan has Rx coverage.

There are many Medicare Supplements. Medicare Supplement Plan F to date is the most comprehensive of all the plans. Plan F will pay 100% of all the Part A and Part B deductibles as well as the 20% left behind. All you have to pay is the premium to an insurance company. Any insurance company that offers Medicare Supplement Plan F must offer the same exact Plan F as every other company selling the plan. The only difference between the companies is price. Medicare Supplements Made Easy can help show you year after year what company is offering the most competitive price. We will also shop your Part D Rx coverage year after year for free.
