Pennsylvania Medigap Insurance Plans

Posted on 03 17 2011 by Julia Gilels

Medigap and Medicare are two words that tend to be easily confused for folks just learning about the Medicare program. Fortunately, Medicare and Medigap are transposable. Medigap is just another word for Medicare Supplementary insurance plans, the best option for secondary insurance. You may already be aware that the Medicare system is a nationwide, government-run healthcare system designed to cover 80% of all Medicare beneficiaries hospital and doctor expenses. The Medicare program is available to American citizens who have worked at least forty quarters at the age of 65 and remains intact for the remainder of their life.

In Pennsylvania, as in the rest of the nation, Medicare is comprised of four distinct parts, parts A through D. Part A is given to you the first day of the month of your 65th birthday, unless you were born on the first day of the month, in which case your Part A begins the first day of the month BEFORE your 65th birthday. Part A is Medicare’s semblance of hospital coverage and it has a pretty hefty deductible you must fulfill before Medicare will cover 80% of the bill, still leaving you with the remaining 20% to cover on your own. The Part A deductible is $1132 every 60 days you enter the hospital. Part B must be elected either over the phone or on the internet using the social security website if you are not already receiving monthly benefits from social security. Part B has a monthly premium and it is Medicare’s form of doctor coverage. Before Medicare will step in and pay 80% of your Part B bill, you must fulfill an annual deductible of $162. These deductibles unfortunately do rise each year, so please be sure the information you read is updated. In summary, there are three major gaps that Pennsylvania Medigap Insurance Plans need to cover- the Part A deductible, the Part B deductible, and the remaining 20% of all Part A and Part B costs.

Pennsylvania Medigap Insurance Plans are designed to cover some, if not all, of these gaps. Pennsylvania Medigap Insurance Plans are comprised of lettered plans each representing a different coverage and cost point. The only way to be positive that all three of these gaps are covered is to join Plan F. Plan F covers all doctor and hospital bills under an affordable monthly premium. The monthly premium is based on the provider you choose and your zip code. Medicare Supplements Made Easy offers free quotes from the highest-rated providers in your zip code. Visit today!
