Medigap Insurance Plans In Pennsylvania

Posted on 03 17 2011 by Adam Patterson

Basically, just after 1965 when Medicare was started under President Johnson, the first Medicare Supplement began. Over the years however, many other companies started to hop onboard and came out with their own versions of the Medicare Supplements. So it became pretty confusing to figure out what companies offered what plans and what was covered under each. So thankfully back in the late 90's Medicare and the Federal Government came together and standardized all the Medicare Supplement plans. So now every company in Pennsylvania is required to offer the exact same coverage. The only difference then is in two areas. The first is price and the second one is service, which I will discuss later.

The way they were able to organize the plans was in a letter system that goes from Plan A through Plan N. The most comprehensive plan is called Plan F. This covers you 100% across the board. With this plan you should never see any out of pocket expenses on the healthcare side ever. If you do, odds are its a mistake and that's when you can call us up we'll help get it taken care of for you. Let's go over some of the specific coverage for Plan F in Pennsylvania.

The first area that Plan F covers is your basic beneifts. This is mainly the 20% we have been concerned with. The next are is something called Skilled Nursing Coinsurance, which means basically after you go to the hospital for a while, when you get out you need some kind of help getting back on your feet. So, this covers you for any kind of rehabilitation you may need. Whether it be in any kind of rehabilitation facility or recieving any kind of Medicare approved care at home such as physical therapy or occupational therapy. It covers you for up to 100 days. The next areas as I mentioned before are your Part A and Part B Deductibles. We discussed Part A, but there is also a once annual Part B Deductible that must be satisfied. Thankfully Plan F covers them both in full, so your coverage begins from day one for you. The next area, which is very important is something called the Part B Excess charges. This is something that we are seeing more of. Basically doctors and hospitals are now allowed to charge up to 15% over what Medicare approves. This means that Lord forbid you did have to have a major surgery, such as any heart procedure that can often cost around $100,000. Medicare and your supplement cover that, but then you recieve a bill in the mail for up to $15,000. That's no good. With the F Plan in Pennsylvania being one of the only plans that covers this, with this plan we can guarantee that you will never see an out of pocket expense on the healthcare side ever. The last area that is covered is any kind of foreign travel emergency. This actually means that you are covered anywhere around the world for up to $50,000.

The next question always then is the price. When it comes to the price there are a few different companies in Pennsylvania that compete for the most competatively priced plan and is mainly based on your zip code.
