Medicare Supplement Plan F
If you’re brand new to Medicare or just getting ready to join the system, you probably know the vast difference between Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage plans. Although Medicare advantage plans have become increasingly popular, most likely due to their affordability on the basis of good health, the new health care bill will cause them to raise their monthly premiums and several benefits will be cut. Medicare advantage plans require a strict county or state-wide network and some also require referrals. Furthermore, because the premiums are so low, doctors and hospitals are eliminating their participation with these plans, making Medicare advantage virtually unfunctional.
On the contrary, Medicare supplements have been in existence since Medicare entered our system and provide the absolute best coverage available. Medicare supplement coverage is based off of a letter system, where each letter represents a different amount of coverage, ranging from Plan A to Plan F. Obviously, the amount of coverage is directly coordinated to the monthly premium. In 2010, two new plans were introduced to aid citizens who may not be able to afford the most comprehensive coverage as far as monthly premium is concerned. Although they may be less in monthly premium, due to the increases in copays and deductibles, you could pay much more for these plans in the long run.
The best medicare supplement plan is Medicare Supplement Plan F. It is the only medicare supplement plan that covers absolutely every gap traditional Medicare leaves you exposed to. Medicare Supplement Plan F covers the Part A hospital deductible of $1132 per 60 day benefit period, the Part B deductible of $162 annually, the remaining 20% of all doctor and hospital bills, and Part B Excess charges.
Medicare Supplement Plan F is also the most popular plan. The vast majority of Medicare enrollees choose Medicare Supplement Plan F as their choice of coverage. Due to the high rate of enrollees, the risk pool for insurance companies across the board for Medicare Supplement Plan F is large, making the monthly premium very affordable. Medicare Supplement Plan F is largely popular because the only bill you have to pay is your monthly premium, making doctor and hospital visits a breeze as enrollees never pay or even see another bill.
